What Is Memory Care — And Why It Matters

Memory care is specialized support for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other cognitive conditions that affect memory, reasoning, and daily functioning. Unlike standard assisted living, memory care is intentionally structured to reduce confusion, prevent unsafe wandering, and create a sense of safety and belonging for the person receiving care.

At Angel's Haven Care, memory care isn't a locked ward or an institutional wing — it's a real home on a real neighborhood street. Consistent caregivers, a calm daily rhythm, and only six fellow residents mean your loved one can feel like themselves in an environment that actually feels like home. See why our model compares so differently →

Conditions We Support

  • Alzheimer's Disease (all stages)
  • Vascular Dementia
  • Lewy Body Dementia
  • Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)
  • Mixed Dementia
  • Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
  • Memory loss related to stroke or TBI

Why Residential Homes Are Better for Memory Care

Research consistently shows that individuals with memory conditions thrive in calm, familiar, low-stimulation environments — not large institutional facilities. Here is what makes the difference.

😌

A Calm, Quiet Environment

Our homes have six residents — not sixty. Quiet hallways, familiar sounds, and a true domestic setting reduce the anxiety and agitation that commonly worsen in large facilities.

👤

Consistent, Familiar Faces

A 1:3 caregiver ratio means your loved one sees the same caregivers every day. Familiarity reduces fear and builds real trust — something impossible where staff rotate constantly.

📅

Structured Daily Routine

Predictable schedules — wake time, meals, activities, rest — are powerfully stabilizing for memory care residents. We build each day around your loved one's own familiar patterns.

🏡

A Real Home Setting

Familiar domestic environments — kitchens, living rooms, gardens — are far less disorienting than clinical corridors. Our homes feel like home because they are homes.

🤲

Truly Personalized Care

With only six residents, caregivers genuinely know each person — their preferences, triggers, life history, and personality. Care is personal, not protocol-driven.

👨‍👩‍👧

Family as Partners

Small homes welcome families. Open-door visits, regular updates, and true care partnerships create a full circle of support around your loved one.

When Is It Time to Consider Memory Care?

Many families wait too long, managing at home until a crisis occurs. These signs suggest your loved one may benefit from the structure and safety of residential memory care:

Getting lost in familiar places, including at home
Wandering at night or leaving home unsafely
Forgetting to eat, take medications, or turn off appliances
Increasing agitation, anxiety, or sundowning in evenings
Difficulty recognizing close family members
Family caregiver exhaustion or burnout
Inability to manage personal hygiene without full assistance
Repeated falls or unexplained injuries at home
Significant personality or behavioral changes
Refusal to eat or unsafe swallowing behaviors

If several of these apply, please call us. Our team can help you assess whether residential memory care is the right next step — with no pressure and no obligation. If your family needs temporary relief while exploring options, our short-term respite care program is also available.

What Families Say About Our Memory Care

★★★★★
After my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, we spent months searching for the right place. Angel's Haven in Temecula was the answer. The caregivers know her by name, know what she likes, and know how to calm her when she's confused. She's safer and more settled than she's been in years — and our family finally sleeps at night.

★★★★★
My father has moderate dementia and was struggling terribly at home. Moving him to Angel's Haven in Murrieta was the best decision we made. The small home environment — just six residents — made all the difference. He's settled and comfortable, and the same caregiver greets him every morning. That consistency has been everything.

★★★★★
When we visited the Lake Elsinore home, I actually cried — because it looked like a real home, not a facility. My grandmother has Lewy body dementia and the team understood her specific needs immediately. Ricardo Garcia and his staff are exceptional people doing exceptional work.

Memory Care — Frequently Asked Questions

Regular assisted living supports individuals who need help with daily activities but have relatively intact cognition. Memory care is specifically designed for individuals with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other cognitive conditions. It includes additional safety measures, structured routines to reduce disorientation, specially trained caregivers, and therapeutic activities targeting cognitive engagement. At Angel's Haven, our entire care model is built around the needs of residents with memory conditions.
Our homes are designed with monitored exits and secure outdoor spaces so residents can move freely and safely without risk of elopement. With only six residents and a 1:3 caregiver ratio, staff are always nearby. Structured daytime activities and consistent daily routines also minimize the restlessness that often leads to wandering, particularly during late afternoon and evening hours.
We support residents across early, middle, and late stages of Alzheimer's and most dementia types. Fit depends on individual care needs and behavioral factors. We conduct a thorough assessment before move-in to confirm we can meet your loved one's specific requirements. In cases involving very advanced behavioral symptoms or certain medical complexities, we will be upfront about whether a different care setting would be more appropriate.
Family communication is central to our care model. We provide regular updates via calls and messages, hold scheduled care conferences with our co-founders and care team, and welcome family visits at any time. Both Ricardo Garcia and Johnny Mazariegos are directly reachable — you will always know exactly who is responsible for your loved one's care. You should never feel left out of decisions — we genuinely want you involved.
Monthly fees are all-inclusive: room and board, three home-cooked meals plus snacks daily, 24/7 caregiver care, medication management, personal hygiene assistance, laundry, cognitive and recreational activities, and coordination with medical providers. We don't believe in nickel-and-diming families. Pricing ranges from $4,500–$6,000/month in Temecula, Murrieta, and Lake Elsinore; $6,500+ in Cathedral City; and $7,000–$7,500 in Rancho Mirage.
We stand behind our care. If within the first 30 days you are not fully satisfied with the care your loved one is receiving, we will work actively to resolve your concerns. This guarantee reflects our confidence in our care model and our commitment to every family we serve. Ask about the specifics when you call or visit.

What Hospice Support Looks Like in a Residential Home

Hospice is a philosophy of care focused on comfort, dignity, and quality of life - not curative treatment. It can take place in many settings, including residential care homes like ours.

At Angel's Haven Care, we partner with licensed hospice agencies to provide a coordinated, compassionate end-of-life experience. The hospice team - nurses, chaplains, social workers, and volunteers - visits your loved one regularly. Our caregivers provide around-the-clock presence, personal care, and comfort in between those visits.

The result is a whole-person, whole-family care experience that neither a hospital nor a large facility can replicate - provided in a real home, on a real neighborhood street, with familiar people and a peaceful atmosphere.

You Don't Have to Face This Alone

If your family is navigating end-of-life care for a loved one, we want you to know that support is available - and that the place where your loved one spends this sacred time matters. Please call us. We'll listen, and we'll help guide you through your options.

Our team is compassionate, experienced, and here for your family every step of the way.

A Home vs. a Hospital - The Difference Is Profound

Where end-of-life care happens shapes the experience for your loved one and for your family. Here is what that difference looks like in practice.

🏠 Angel's Haven Care Residential Home

  • A quiet, warm home environment - not a clinical ward
  • Familiar caregivers who know your loved one personally
  • Family welcome to visit and stay as long as needed
  • Soft lighting, home-cooked aromas, real comfort
  • No rotating strangers or institutional noise
  • Unhurried, dignified personal care
  • Outdoor space and natural light available
  • Small community - privacy without isolation

🏥 Hospital or Large Facility

  • Clinical environment with institutional sights and sounds
  • Rotating staff who may not know your loved one
  • Visiting hours and access restrictions often apply
  • Fluorescent lighting, medical equipment, shared rooms
  • Shift-driven care schedule, not person-centered
  • Rushed interactions due to high staff-to-resident ratios
  • Limited access to outdoor or natural environments
  • Large community - loss of intimacy and quiet

How We Work With Hospice Agencies

We do not provide hospice services directly - that is the role of licensed hospice agencies, whose teams of nurses, physicians, chaplains, and social workers are medically equipped and specially trained for end-of-life care. What we do is partner with them, providing the residential setting and around-the-clock personal care that makes hospice work beautifully.

We work with most major hospice providers in the Southern California region. If your loved one is already enrolled with a hospice agency, we can coordinate directly with their team to ensure a smooth transition into our home.

If you are not yet connected with a hospice provider, our team can help guide you toward appropriate resources and referrals.

What Angel's Haven Care Provides

  • 24/7 awake caregiver presence - always someone close by
  • Personal care: bathing, positioning, skin care, oral hygiene
  • Comfort-focused meal preparation and hydration support
  • Medication administration as directed by the hospice team
  • Communication and coordination with the hospice nursing team
  • A peaceful, private, home-like environment
  • Emotional presence and quiet companionship
  • Support for family visits - day or night, no restrictions
  • Laundry, linen, and daily living support throughout

Our Approach to End-of-Life Dignity

At Angel's Haven Care, we believe every person deserves to spend their final chapter surrounded by comfort, familiarity, and love. These are the values we bring to every hospice support situation.

🤍

Unhurried Presence

Our caregivers are never rushed. With only six residents per home, we have the time to sit with your loved one, hold their hand, and simply be present.

🕊️

Peace & Quiet

Our homes are genuinely quiet. No overhead announcements, no institutional noise, no busy corridors - just a calm, peaceful environment befitting this time.

🌿

Natural Comfort

Soft lighting, fresh air, home-cooked aromas, and access to outdoor spaces support a sense of natural peace that clinical environments cannot offer.

👨‍👩‍👧

Family Always Welcome

Family members can visit, stay overnight, and be fully present. This time belongs to your family - we simply ensure comfort and care around you.

🙏

Dignity in Every Moment

Every interaction - bathing, repositioning, feeding - is carried out with deep respect and tenderness. Your loved one's dignity is sacred to us.

💬

Family Communication

We keep families informed and involved. You will never be left wondering how your loved one is doing - we'll reach out proactively, not only when called.

Supporting Your Family Through This Time

We know that end-of-life care is not only about the person receiving care - it is about the whole family. Watching a loved one approach the end of their life is one of the hardest experiences any of us will face.

At Angel's Haven Care, we try to carry some of that weight so your family can focus on being present - not on logistics, not on caregiving tasks, not on worry. Our team handles the care. You handle the love.

Families are welcome to visit at any hour. We can accommodate overnight stays when timing becomes critical. We'll communicate openly and honestly with you throughout, and we'll reach out to you - not wait for you to ask.

What Families Say

★★★★★
My father spent his last weeks at Angel's Haven Care in Rancho Mirage. I cannot put into words what it meant to have him in a real home - a quiet room, familiar caregivers, good food. The hospice team and Angel's Haven Care worked together seamlessly. He passed peacefully and with dignity. Our family will be forever grateful.

We were terrified at first - we didn't know what hospice in a care home would look like. Ricardo walked us through everything. The home was peaceful and beautiful. My mother was never alone. The caregivers sat with her, talked to her, played her favorite music. It was the most loving environment we could have hoped for.

Melissa Flores Family Member — Lake Elsinore
★★★★★
When the hospice social worker recommended Angel's Haven Care, I was initially unsure. After one visit to the Temecula home, I knew it was right. The intimacy, the calm, the quality of the caregivers - there was nothing clinical about it. My grandmother spent her final days surrounded by warmth. That is a gift beyond measure.

Hospice Support - Frequently Asked Questions

No - Angel's Haven Care is a licensed residential care facility, not a hospice provider. We partner with licensed hospice agencies that supply the medical, nursing, chaplaincy, and social work components of hospice care. Our role is to provide the residential setting, 24/7 personal care, and comfort support that surrounds and enhances the hospice team's work. This partnership model is how hospice most commonly works in a residential care setting.
In most cases, yes. We work with most major hospice agencies serving the Southern California region. Once your loved one is placed in one of our homes, the hospice team continues their visits and care coordination - they simply come to us rather than to a hospital or private home. We will coordinate directly with the agency's nursing team to ensure continuity of care.
Yes, absolutely. We do not have restricted visiting hours for families of hospice residents. Family members are welcome to visit at any time of day or night, and we can accommodate overnight stays when circumstances require it. We believe that presence - yours and your family's - is one of the most powerful forms of comfort we can offer your loved one. Please let our staff know your intentions so we can support your visits as well as possible.
Yes. Our homes have 24/7 awake caregiver presence - including overnight. Someone is always close by. With only six residents per home and a 1:3 caregiver ratio, your loved one will never be left alone. This constant presence is one of the most meaningful things we offer during this time - the assurance that your loved one is never alone, even in the quiet hours of the night.
There are two separate costs: the hospice agency's services (typically covered by Medicare Part A or Medi-Cal at no cost to the family) and the residential care home costs (our monthly rates, which cover room, board, and 24/7 personal care). Some long-term care insurance policies cover residential care costs. We encourage families to check their coverage. We are happy to help you understand the financial picture during your first conversation with us.
We understand that hospice situations can require timely placement. We will work as quickly as possible to assess availability and arrange an appropriate transition. Please call us directly at (951) 452-1216 - our team will prioritize your situation and help coordinate a move in as little as 24 to 48 hours when urgency requires it.

We're Here for Your Family

If your loved one is entering hospice care, please reach out to us. This is one of the most profound moments your family will experience, and we want to help make it as peaceful, dignified, and loving as possible.
