What a residential care home is, and who it suits

A licensed house with six residents and caregivers on site around the clock. What that looks like day to day, how it differs from a large community, and what it costs.

Most families start looking at care after something small goes wrong twice. A pan left on the hob. A second fall in a month. The question is rarely whether your parent needs help, it is what kind of help, and how much.

What a residential care home actually is

A residential care home is a licensed house in an ordinary neighbourhood, with a small number of residents and caregivers on site around the clock. Ours hold six people each, with one caregiver to every three residents.

  • Six residents per home, so staff know everyone by name
  • One caregiver to every three residents, day and night
  • Three home cooked meals a day, eaten together at one table

How it differs from a large facility

A large community measures itself in beds. A house of six measures itself in names. That difference shows up most clearly at night, when a resident who wakes confused is met by someone who recognises them.

The management is incredible, loving and caring. You can see it in how the residents are with each other.

What it costs

Our homes start from $4,500 a month, all inclusive, with no separate activity fee and no surprise charges. Rates run to $7,500 depending on the level of care needed.

If you would like to see one for yourself, a tour takes about half an hour and there is no obligation at the end of it.
